MARGARET MEMO Week of February 21, 2012

“So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead' - Luke 24:46

INFORMATION ~ ANNOUNCEMENTS ~ IMPORTANT DATES

From the Principal’s Desk…
What a glorious winter we have been blessed with! Of course, we had planned for a different winter, but I, for one, am not complaining.

Below I discuss a couple of events/items that are of import this month. Over the next few weeks and months we should see and hear more information regarding the Regionalization of schools. I will do my best to keep everyone updated.

EVENTS FOR THIS WEEK:
  • Wednesday, February 22nd: Ash Wednesday, Ashes distributed at 10AM in the church
  • Tuesday, February 28th: Vicariate Tuition meeting at St. Margaret’s

LOOKING AHEAD…
  • Friday, March 2, 2012: First Friday
    • “Dollar Day”
    • School Liturgy at 11AM in the Church
    • Dismissal at 12 Noon

SCHOOL NEWS ~
Ash Wednesday Marks the Beginning of Lenten Season
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption.

Ashes are a symbol of penance made sacramental by the blessing of the Church, and they help us develop a spirit of humility and sacrifice.

While the ashes symbolize penance and contrition, they are also a reminder that God is gracious and merciful to those who call on Him with repentant hearts. His Divine mercy is of utmost importance during the season of Lent, and the Church calls on us to seek that mercy during the entire Lenten season with reflection, prayer and penance.

SMART Tuition Company
The SMART Tuition Company has been chosen by the Archdiocese of New York to be the new tuition collection company for those schools in the pilot Regions. Although this will be a major change to how we collect tuition, I have already made some arrangements that should provide additional options for parents.

A meeting of principals of the schools in the region, the pastors of these schools and accountants will be held here at St. Margaret’s next Tuesday to discuss and finalize any changes that may occur.

I expect that tuition forms will be distributed a few days after that meeting takes place.

March Calendar Raffle
Below you will see that the HSA has some information about the March Calendar Raffle. The Calendar Raffle is one of the few fundraisers in the school year that gives back to those who participate. Each raffle sold/purchased offers 31 chances to win! We are asking each family to sell five chances in the Calendar Raffle. If we reach this goal we will raise over $7,000 for our school!

As highlighted below in the HSA section, there is a change to the way we are doing the raffle this year. Instead of receiving ten chances in the Calendar Raffle with your Fund Raising Fee, each family receives a chance to win the Grand Prize in our $10,000 Raffle held later this spring.

Thank you for your support of both of these important events. The proceeds from these programs ensure that we can continue to provide quality activities for our students.

Tardiness
One of the changes we made this school year was intended to benefit the students. I refer to opening the school doors at 8:10AM and allowing students to proceed directly to class. Once there, students put away belonging, get books ready and, in many cases, can start the day with a few minutes of quiet time before prayers begin at 8:15AM.

Unfortunately, we are still seeing quite a bit of tardiness. So much so, that it is becoming necessary to consider a new policy regarding attendance and Report Cards. Therefore, I am asking parents for their help. Please make sure that your child arrives at school by 8:00AM so they can get to their classrooms and prepare for the day ahead. Thank you for cooperating on this important request.

PARISH NEWS ~
CYO Playoffs begin this weekend.  Please come out to support our teams:

Girls Varsity plays St. Mary Star of the Sea on Sunday 2/26 9:00 am at Mt. Carmel

Boys Junior Varsity  plays St. Francis Xavier on Sunday 2/26 at 3:50 at Mt. Carmel

St. Margaret's Boys Bantams play Saturday 2/25 at 1:40 verse Star of the Sea.

Debs play St benedict at 11:20 at Mt Carmel

HSA NEWS ~
March Calendar Raffle
It is March calendar raffle time again and this year there are a few changes. To ensure the success of the fundraiser, we ask that each family buy/sell 5 raffles. For selling these five raffles you will receive 1 NUT card for each child in your family. For each additional raffle you buy/sell after the original five you receive a NUT card for each child in your family. So, if you buy/sell 10 raffles you will receive 6 NUT cards for each child. With over 200 families in the school, we will surpass our goal and be able to provide additional programs for our students to enjoy.

For those of you that are familiar with the March calendar raffle you will recall that the $100 that you contribute to in the fundraising fee was put toward the March calendar raffle. Now, that $100 gets your family a ticket to the 300 Grand Prize Bonanza. Grand Prize - $10,000.

Thank you for your continuous support in making our fundraisers successful.

Thank you.
HSA

God’s blessings to you all.
